Peter Gomes, Liberal Christian
I get to add another one to my list of liberal theologians. Until yesterday I had never heard of Peter J. Gomes, Harvard’s Chaplain. You can watch the interview here, where he explains how taking the Bible “literally” robs it of its power, why Karl Marx’s vision of communism is more Christian than modern American Christianity, and other subjects sure to ruffle some feathers. All of this is delivered, incidentally, in a fantastic New England accent — something of a bonus.
If you think the anti-homosexual, anti-choice Republican Mike Huckabee is a liberal Christian simply because he doesn’t fully endorse the corporate oligarchy, I encourage you to watch the videos above and listen to a real liberal Christian theologian.
Incidentally, the first video that plays is highlights of all the others — click on the videos on the right of the player to hear the more in-depth discussion.

I think we h a majoave problem when theologians seek to associate the gospel of Christ with struggles of liberation .We tend to lose the original message of Christ which is not about revolutionary struggles for justice or political activism but repenting of our sins(i.e. hatred , bigotry, lewdness, covetousness, resentment, the evil eye, adultery, fornication, lying, backstabbing, theft, murder, etc…) turning to God to accept Him (Christ)as Saviour and Lord. And that means all of us not just those in power.
